Job Description:
The Acquisitions Editorial Assistant position supports the scholarly book acquisitions process at a university press that works with authors and readers from around the world, in fields including Middle East studies, Native American studies, peace and conflict resolution, Irish studies, Jewish studies, studies of New York State, and popular culture. This position provides comprehensive support to the editor-in-chief and acquisitions editor, including tracking manuscripts through multiple processes from proposal evaluation to transmittal to Editorial & Production team; maintaining schedules and project documentation; corresponding with authors, peer reviewers, grantors, and others; and scheduling editorial board meetings and taking minutes. The ideal candidate will be an organized, self-starting, collaborative, and energetic individual who is interested in building a career in scholarly publishing. No subject expertise is necessary.
This position is tied to the SU Libraries.

Responsibilities:
- Assist editors in acquiring, evaluating, contracting, and transmitting book projects, including: providing feedback on proposals and manuscripts and sending rejections; researching, initiating, tracking, and processing peer reviews; corresponding with authors; reviewing permissions material; scheduling editorial board meetings and taking minutes; and preparing final manuscripts for transmittal to Editorial and Production.
- Create and maintain department records and metadata in the Press's title management database (Biblio); draft and edit book and author information for internal and external memos in consultation with the editor; track subvention and grant requests and associated acknowledgment language.
- Assist with intern selection, training, and workflow.
- Occasionally attend conferences to represent the Press, share information about Press acquisitions areas with prospective authors, and handle book sales.
- Other duties as assigned.
