Specific duties include:
- Overseeing, managing, and leading a team of reporters, community contributors, and freelancers
- Hiring, directing, and evaluating all newsroom employees
- Developing full understanding of editorial procedure, goals, and operations
- Developing full understanding of all production procedures for all papers
- Developing full understanding of all press and distribution functions
- Being a primary community contact for the paper through civic groups, social functions, etc.
- Being available to answer questions and help solve problems for all employees
- Working under the direction of the Publisher
- Participating in strategic planning processes
- Keeping the newsroom operating within budget
Qualifications:
Applicants should possess the following:
- Advanced journalism training
- Management experience
- Great people and communication skills
- Team development, organizational, and planning skills
- Must be available some nights and weekends
- Five years of experience in journalism is preferred
