The College of Arts & Media, Department of Music & Entertainment Industry Studies has an opening for a full-time Clinical Teaching Track in Singer/Songwriter (an unclassified) position. Teaching assignments will have a start date of August 2024, will require an 80% teaching load. The incumbent will be accountable for teaching courses related to songwriting, performance, advanced songwriting and production, applied lessons, ensembles, well as any additional music courses as required by the MEIS Department and will need to possess the ability to teach undergraduate courses, and engage in research, creative work, and service. The continuance of this appointment will be based on merit/performance, budget, and enrollment numbers.

Examples of Work Performed:

Teaching (80%)
  • Teach a 3/3 course load (18 total credits per AY) in the following areas: introduction to songwriting, applied upper division singer/songwriter lessons, popular music arranging & performance, advanced songwriting & production, media placement, performance ensembles, and additional music courses as required by the MEIS Department.
  • Professors are responsible for the preparation of course content, syllabi, lectures, presentations, and student assignments; evaluation of student work; tracking and progress of student attendance and engagement; student advisement, management of course in online platform Canvas; etc.
  • All other duties and projects as requested

Research & Creative Work (10%)
  • Engage in professional and academic community through publications, recordings, performances, multimedia, and professional development areas
  • Produce professional work through scholarly and creative activity

Service (10%)
  • Engage in and contribute to the function and operations of the department, as defined by the department chair
  • Work (e.g. off-campus performances, creative retreats) with the broader community in representing the university, department, and students

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Education or Tested Experience in lieu of degree:

1. Master's degree in Music or related advanced degree or substitution of tested experience for the Master's:
  • Recording with a reputable national/international label (corresponding review from a national media outlet), or
  • Extensive experience as a performer/composer/arranger with a national or international reputation (corresponding review from a national/international media outlet), or
  • Representation with a reputable national/international artist management company, or
  • Evidence of a national/international tour/festival (corresponding review from a national media outlet), or
  • Evidence of song published/performed by a major artist/publishing/media outlet (i.e. film or TV show) or company, or
  • Five years successful experience teaching at a major university or college in same or similar program

2. Industry credits with demonstrated national presence, excellence, and accomplishment as a Songwriter, plus Performer (Singer/Instrumentalist) and/or Producer

3. Experience that shows diversity, equity, and inclusivity practices, and inclusive pedagogy in teaching and/or creative work

Anticipated Pay Range:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established at $60,000 to $65,000.
